Philips Senseo HD7860 Coffee Maker
This most recent Philips Senseo HD7860/60coffee maker is not accurately a coffee machine, but is one of a new generation of exceptionally user friendly machines that make available fresh coffee at the push of a button from coffee pads. We have reviewed the model. Initial impressions are ….well …. impressive. It’s described as a maker for people who favor straight lines to curves. It does have one or two curves, as it happens, but is a very good looking, yet neat machine (standing around 17 cm wide, 22 cm deep and 25 cm high). It comes in black or white.
It’s a bit worrying when you prepare the maker for use for the first time as its very noisy whilst being flushed. However its much quieter when being used following that.
The most important considerations in reviewing the Philips Senseo HD7860/60coffee maker are the ease of use and quality of the coffee it produces.
The model comes with two nozzles and so can make two cups at one time as well as just one. And has a height variable stand for the cups, so different cup / mug sizes can straightforwardly be used. Mugs or cups up to 115 mm in height can effortlessly be accommodated..It takes in the order of 30 seconds to infuse one cup, or 50 seconds for two.
The water container holds 1.2 litres, enough for at least 8 cups, very generous. Each cup is 120ml.
The Philips Senseo HD7860/60coffee maker shuts itself off after thirty minutes – an important feature I found!
Coffee Pads
The coffee pads are a great deal better value than the coffee pods that have been traditionally used in such machines. Although the Senseo ones are about 15p each, you can find other ones much cheaper, and being pads there shouldn’t in the main be a compatibility issue. You’ll need to acquire round ones.We have used original and substitute coffee pads and the coffee produced by each has been excellent.
This is a good coffee maker. Its unique selling point is its looks. We think that the HD7860 comes into its own when located in a fairly contemporary kitchen or one with dark work tops – it will commonly fit in better than the more conventional machines. And it brews terrific coffee!
